Special Notes

Marking the start of the new year, the Cape Cod Road Runners Winter Fun Run is a New England favorite, periodically turning up in the Hockomock Swamp Rat's Grand Pricks series of the toughest races in New England. Some years are sparsely attended, others will draw a large following and you never know who might show up as local elite runners use the race as a mid-winter staleness fighter. Typical New England winter weather is a hallmark with some balmy years in the 50’s and some years of sheet ice and temperatures in the single digits. Since the course uses markings from a mid-summer 10K, mile 3-4 is short (the 0.9 mile) and from 4 to the finish is a full mile. The original course included a jaunt through the woods but that was discarded in the late 1990’s when landowners complained and blocked off the access way. Entry fees have always been the lowest around and benefit the Bourne Conservation Trust. A pair of cotton running gloves are given to every runner as long as they last and the Weary Travelers Lodge’s clam fritters and chowder after the run can’t be beat.
