Special Notes

Likely a one-time race, this short run is a benefit fundraiser for the Chatham High School's Latin class's annual trip to Rome. Intended to be a 5K route, the turnaround sign was inadvertently posted short in the inaugural year resulting in a 2.75M course. Highlights include home-baked after-race treats, many toga-wearing participants, hand-made bib numbers (Roman numerals of course), and a handkerchief drop for the start. Laurel wreaths and gift certificates are awarded to the first-place overall male and female and the first walker. An out and back course, be careful of the steep hill descending Stepping Stones Road which will lead to fast splits for the first mile, as long as you avoid twisting an ankle on the way down.

The Course

Start on the bike path at the High School tennis courts parking lot facing south. Head up the bike path to Stepping Stones where you'll cross the road to the path on the other side of the street. Continue on the path to Wilfred Road and follow the bike path at the end of Wilfred Road until the turnaround location. To extend the course to the full 5K, continue on the bike path to the intersection with George Ryder Road before turning around.

Getting There

Take Route 6 to exit 11 and head south on Route 137. Turn left at the end of 137 on to Route 28. Take a hard left at the stop lights on to Crowell Road and continue about 3/4 mile to a left on Stepping Stones Road. The tennis courts are up the hill on your right. Parking is available at the tennis courts or in the high school parking lot on Crowell Road.
