The Cape Cod Athletic Club celebrated 2009 performances and awarded prizes for the 2009-2010 Winter Grand Prix series at the annual banquet on February 6th held at the Dennis Inn. MC'd by president Joe Navas, guests were treated to a fine meal followed by woopie pies stuffed with peppermint ice cream for dessert! After awards and a little bit of digestion, revelers spent the rest of the evening chatting about running, triathlon, and racing, poring over Grand Prix results, watching a slide show, and dancing. Long-time club members Joanne Creel and Brian Kelly were inducted into the Hall of Fame and the first Winter Grand Prix Team Challenge Cup was awarded to team Happy Trails. The traditional day-after-banquet run was combined with Kevin's 10 Miler the following morning for any who could manage to get out of bed by 11:00AM.

I Beat Joe??!!Brandon Bausch (With Joe Navas nursing a mildly strained glute muscle, Brandon cruised to a seemingly easy win at Grand Prix #1. Alas, when Joe perked up a few races later, he was nowhere in Brandon's line of sight by the finish.) |
Best MentorKatie McCully (Swim and cross-country coach, teacher and friend, Katie dragged the Nauset Warriors with her to practically every Grand Prix - and her persistence paid off as Nauset took 1st place team in the Mixed Division and leaders Brandon Bausch and Robyn Argo won individual honors as top points winners.) |
Most InspirationalLarry Cole (I want to be like these people when I grow up!) |
Iron RunnersRobyn Argo (25 athletes completed all 6 races this year and earn the 2010 Iron Runner bragging rights! Where noted by a "V," a few also through in virtual races on our two snow days.) |
Build Me A House PartyKurt Martin (Not content with the houses he's already got, Kurt invited the CCAC crew over to race at his new construction project and then handed out paint brushes and put people to work at the end. Kurt also gets the nod for Best Exotic Foods.) |
Get Out of Jail FreePaul Mellett (After Grand Prix #4 hosted by the Yarmouth Police Department, Paul demonstrated the use of assualt weapons and tasers. No one bothered him for the remainder of the series.) |
UncontestedLarry Cole (Completely unchallenged in his age group, it seems that its good to age up!) |
|
The Most ConsistentLaura Woods - - 4.5 (PIH points varied the least amongst all the races. Any time these folks show up, you know exactly what they're going to run.) |
The Most ErraticSharon Magaliff - - 111.1 Martha Edwards - - 73.2 (You never knew what these people were going to run. Martha began the series walking and was running almost the entire course by the end of the series!) |
Perfect 10sSusan Lowry Jane Lovelette Brandon Bausch Jason McWhirter Larry Cole (60 total points, 1st place in their divisions for every race, these runners dominated their groups and were still able to walk after the Grand Prix wrapped.) |
|
Overall Points LeadersBrandon Bausch - - 4484 Robyn Argo - - 3564 (Awarding both performance and attendance, these racers topped the charts. Each was awarded a club technical shirt and a special block of 2x4. This year's leaders are both members of the Nauset Warriors XC team.) |
Age GradedJoe Navas (After adjusting times based on 2001 WAVA age-grading tables, these folks came out at the top of the heap.) |
VirginsJesse Tanguay Robyn Argo (Going to a weekly race series with a bunch of old people is challenging enough - winning your division and leaving your competition in the dust? Priceless!) |
Family RecognitionGeorge & Brandon Bausch (In addition to our many couples (15 pairs participated this year), many make the Grand Prix a family affair!) |
