Cape Cod Fat Ass 50K (25K)

February 6, 2010

50K/25K

28 degrees, overcast with flurries, strong wind gusting from the northeast.

The 4th annual Cape Cod Frozen Fatass 50K was held in Sandy Neck Park on Saturday, Feb.6th. 36 intrepid adventurers faced sub-freezing temperatures and a strong northeasterly wind. 17 runners opted for the 25K (15.5 miles), while 18 completed the full two loop course. The starting total was the most ever, and a long way from our first year total of ten! In addition, Will Daniels set a new record for the 25K of 2:10, closely followed by emerging 16 year old high school star Jon Canon. Ri Fahnestock of 200 mile Vermont fame won the 50K in 5:23, with three of the next four runners in the longer race women!
As usual, runners enjoyed race director Bob Jensen's quohog chowder and chicken soup along with a delicious and varied home made smorgasbord donated from loyal returnees. An exceedingly good time was had by all!
