84 runners gathered on a sunny, chilly winter morning for the first race of the Cape Cod Athletic Club Winter Grand
Prix series. They were led to the finish by Falmouth's Ken Gartner in 27:23 and for the women, Lauren Heyl in
31:42. A light breeze froze faces as the runners toured a scenic loop of Hyannisport then returned to Harry's for
some fresh chowder and gossip. Johnny Kelley was on-hand to celebrate along with a new entrant to the 50+ age
group, Kevin Petrovek, who was able to work out the arthritis for a 31:36 finish. Lori Horan
finished strong as the 4th female overall in 35:49 and is eager to be racing again after having a child a few weeks ago. Cathy Klim blew
away the 50+ women's field with a 32:58 finish for 2nd woman overall. Fierce battles are brewing in the weeks
ahead for the men's 40-49 and 50-59 age groups while Bill Riley continues to dominate the 60+
division.
The Grand Prix series continues every weekend (except 7 January) until the end of January at various locations
across the Cape. Cost is $5 for club members and $10 for non-members. All are invited to attend but only club
members are eligible for points and awards to be presented at the annual club banquet in February. For more
