Passing on to faster pastures
on the 15th of September in 2007 at the age of 90, Frank "Scotty" Carter still
claims the world’s best mile time of 5:32.4 for the men’s 70-74 age group, the
American record of 5:28.5 in the 1500m for M75-79, the M75-79 world and American
records of 5:57.2 for the mile, and the American record for M75-79 in the 3000m
of 12:04.0. A phys-ed and sports coach at Bristol High School for 37 years,
Scotty retired to Cape Cod in 1978 and focused on his running. He continued to
coach swimming and was an active CCAC member and volunteer at all club
activities. He won the men’s 75+ World Cross Country Championship in 1992.![]() |
