Join us at Long Pond in Brewster to practice your triathlon. A pond swim, 10 mile bike, and 3.6 mile run on the Rail Trail will get you ready for that upcoming sprint, whether it’s TimeOut! Productions Sprint 1 in Hyannis next weekend or elsewhere. But don’t feel constrained by what we’ve setup. Use this event to practice your transitions, do a weak leg over and over, or double the legs for an Olympic distance training race. Start time is 8:00AM and we request that all participants become members of the Cape Cod Athletic Club. For more information, read this flyer and check out the race course.

CCAC and the Cape Cod Triathlon Team announce a spring training camp to be held the weekend of 29-31 May. The camp will feature two days full of training activities including group rides, coach led swims, and trail and bike path runs, and informal seminars on stretching, strengthening, nutrition and other topics that suit the campers’ fancies. You can register on-line now or mail the registration form today. Not just for tri-geeks, pop in at any time for a run, swim or group bike ride and then explore the park. After a tough day of training, you’ll gather around the campfire to share race and training stories over roasting marshmallows. Headquartered at Dream Day on Cape Cod’s Nan-Ke-Rafe camp in the back of Nickerson State Park, campers have the option of staying in a private or group cabin, pitching a tent, or just stopping in for the day. For more information, contact Andy Scherding at (508) 246-6664. Additional proceeds of the event will be donated to the Cape Cod Athletic Club and Dream Day on Cape Cod.

After a washout of Practice Triathlon I a few weeks ago (actually it was a delightful ride and run in the rain with Andy but that’s another story), the weather decided to tease us with August conditions for Practice Tri II. Temperatures in the high 80′s creeped slowly upwards as the day continued forcing us all to adapt our strategies accordingly. But the 50 degree water of Long Pond was welcome before … and especially after … something definitely not true on the day of Practice Tri I. We were honored to welcome David Dyson of the Connecticut HEAT who blazed the bike for a ‘win’ in 57:19. Several newcomers opted for shortened versions of the course just to get their feet wet, so to speak, and we look forward to seeing them on the roads and at the races this summer. Many thanks to Mark Snyder and the younger Scherding for supervising the swim course and of course, to Andy for setting it up and making sure we all got out of bed nice and early on a Sunday morning. If you’d like to share your splits or stories on the results page, please forward them to ccac@cape.com. Good luck on upcoming races and don’t forget Practice Tri III on July 13th. See you there!
