Beautiful weather this weekend means we’ll be hitting the roads and trails on both foot and cycle but there’s some construction happening along the Chatham-Harwich spur of the Rail Trail (aka the Old Colony Rail Trail) that you’ll need to watch out for. In Harwich, the town is replacing water mains between Thompson’s Field and Depot Road as part of an installation of a new water treatment facility on Depot Road and will have much of that section of path torn up for a few weeks. Although they haven’t started yet, construction looks imminent and if anyone has more specific dates, please post them as a reply. In Chatham, sewer construction for the new police facility has begun. Construction starts at the treatment plant in South Chatham, just east of Short & Sweet, and continues to George Ryder Road. Although most of the construction is now shifting to Route 28 as of 6 April, George Ryder Road will continue to be torn up and closed to traffic during the week for a few more weeks. Cyclists and runners can, for the moment, get from the airport to the next section of trail without much difficulty and construction ceases over the weekend but be alert for holes, sandy sections of road, and the steel plates across the road.
